According to the chronicles of Coronado’s expedition across the Texas Panhandle it is recorded that they made camp in a canyon where they experienced a violent hail storm. One of the clues as to its location was that the walls were too steep for the horses to climb out. Other information indicates that this took place somewhere in the Tule Canyon. The most likely location, that meets all of the clues, is in the part of the canyon known as the “Narrows”. The following are aerial photos and topography maps of the area. The “Narrows” are located just east of lake Mackenzie.
