Afternoon Hunt

Late Friday afternoon I went with Zachary and Jack on a prairie dog hunting expedition.

..(remember you can click on the pictures for a larger view)..
On a ranch south of town there is an abundance of them.

Its amazing how much damage prairie dogs can cause to good grass land.

You can start to sense the changing of the seasons in the air. It was truly a beautiful afternoon.
Jack shooting the Browning 22 automatic that my dad gave me when I was very young.
Zachary working on his proficiency with a pistol.
For some of the distance shots Zachary elected to step up the fire power.

This is a sweet shooting little rifle.

Here you can see how much damage prairie dogs cause. Notice on this side of the fence all the grass is gone. On the other side they have a better prairie dog management program.

Spending time with your sons, out hunting, in the great wide open space of the Texas Panhandle, - - it just doesn't get any better than this.

Senior - End of Summer Party

Its hard to believe Kristen is starting her senior year.

Their "End of summer pool party" got rained out Friday night so they moved the party to our house.

Everyone enjoyed playing Catch Phrase and other games.

The food was great too.

Jack had Kelby, an old friend from McLean, over for the night.

Cousins Camp

Friday night and Saturday we had our 5th annual Cousins Camp. Again this year we met at the Pioneer State Park just 7 miles north of Wellington on the Salt Fork of the Red River.

Uncle Dennis Wilhelm getting help from Chandler Adams.

Emily (Berkleys guest), Berkley Wilhelm, & Blake Wilhelm enjoy playing in the cool river.
The river is the lowest it has been all summer. With all the rain this summer, most days it has had from a foot to two foot of water.

"Look Dad, I got one!" Blake show his dad, Pat Wilhelm, his catch of the day.

Yep, we are rednecks. Matt Wilhelm & Jack Odom using "bug zapper rackets".

Berkley, Blake, Branston & Emily enjoy playing in the sand.

It looks fun enough the "bigger kids" are going to join in.

This Coleman tent was given to my dad by Bill Gunn (Gunn Brothers Stamps) in about 1966. Our family has used it extensively over the past 41 years. I can remember going camping at Greenbelt lake at Clarendon and at Graham Lake at Quitaque when I was the age of Berkley and Blake.

Those who were not able to be here this year sure missed a lot of fun. Hopefully everyone can make it to Cousins Camp next year!
