The adobe wall around the corral originally had cactus planted on the top to detour livestock theft.




It must have made a BIG noise!

These cannons were not much on size but must have been very effective.

The Cattle Show

This week I caught a glimpse of what it must be like to be someone on TV. The Cattle Show is a weekly program on RFD TV that focuses on items of interest to cattle producers. This show segment was hosted by Thom Childress of Groom Texas.



The segment of the show I am part of centers around BVDV testing for cattle. They shot the segment in an old barn.

It was interesting to see them set up all the cameras (I must have more than one good side), teleprompters, & microphones. I am guessing that the air time I will get out of this show will be about 5 to 7 minutes. Including set up time it took right at 2 hours to shoot it.


Though the material I covered is stuff I talk about every day, my company required that I work off of a company approved script. Which had to be approved by several departments in the company. The whole process was very enlightening.


LZ, the producer and director of the show, enjoying the plush directors chair. Her daughter is providing the technical assistance with the teleprompter.




Ron Kramer of Camp Cooley Ranch & Bryan McMurtry of Cargill Animal Nutrition seem to be enjoying the "out takes".

Weekend At Roger & Patsy's

It's great when your friends are relatives and when your relatives are friends. Thanks Roger & Patsy for a wonderfully fun weekend!


Rosie the water dog! Rosie really enjoyed playing fetch in the pool.

Rosie enjoyed the hot tub too.

Kristen & Rachel enjoyed shopping, finding some great bargains and then dressing up.

Roger and Patsy live real close to one of the approach patterns for Meacham Field. One afternoon we got our own private air show.

Someone was having fun taking a B17 Flying Fortress (WWII era) out for some touch-and-goes. It made about six or seven passes.

Uncle Roger took us night fishing out on Eagle Mountain Lake. We didn't catch very many fish but is was a beautiful evening on the lake.

Shuttle In Amarillo Texas

The Space Shuttle was in Amarillo this week as it was being transported back to NASA in Florida. The 747 that carries the Shuttle piggyback had to take on some more fuel.

Summertime At The Ranch

Summertime at the ranch is always fun. We all need a little ranch therapy occasionally. Recently Kristen, Zachary & Jack spend most of a week at the ranch. The pictures they took take me back to summer memories of a simpler time in my life. Awe, a fresh breath of simple. (click on the pictures for a larger view)

With all the rain this year the wild flowers have been beautiful.
There are a few interesting calves at the ranch this year.
I guess it is because there are a few interesting cows at the ranch.
Some cows have character. Some have personality. Some have both.

The ranch house has natural insulation in the summer. The vine completely covers the north and east side of the house.
Its kind of like living in a tree house. No need for curtains in the windows because the leaves cover them.
Several people have had a hand in selecting the kind of flowers and plants at the ranch house. Some of these would have been planted by my grand parents.
This would be some of Uncle Kevin's work.

This looks like some of Moms work.

The trees at the ranch house make it an oasis on the vast open prairie.
